Bass Fishing Tip 1

One of the best bass fishing tips I received was if nothing is happening, change what you're doing! How much sense does that make? It makes a lot of sense. The old saying of "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result" rings true in most walks of life. It also applies to bass fishing.

Bass Fishing Fact

If fishing in a new location make sure to study a map of the lake well before you go there and find out where the deepest water is ,where snags are, which are the best sheltered spots if the wind comes up and generally have a plan so that if nothing is happening in one area you can move to your next planned spot and try other techniques. Apart from a good map of the lake, deciding on the type of bait you use first up is vital. Many experts suggest crank bait as a good way to find the fish first up.

When things aren't happening and the fish aren't biting consider making a few changes. Too many times anglers will just leave a line in the water and hope the tide will change. Maybe a bass is dumb enough to take pity on you and will just grab your line to help you out a little. Or, you head for the esky and rip a top off your favorite drink and simply wait it out.

No, if things are going to start happening you have to make them happen. There will be days when the bass are just biting on everything you cast at them and there will be days when they are just not interested in what you have to offer. This is when you need to get a little inventive.
The clarity of the water has a very large effect upon how color impacts bass fishing. In clear shallow water, artificial bait which mimics the silver and gold color of the bass's natural baitfish food sources work well. The flash of these colors as artificial bait passes through the water is very effective in attracting bass. If your bait is designed to resemble crawfish it should display colors that are similar to the natural coloration of the crawfish. The best colors in this situation would be shades of green and brown.

As visibility is reduced (1-3 feet) brighter colors such as chartreuse, and the shades of red and orange that display "neon" qualities become more effective. With further reductions of visibility(less than 1foot such as in muddy water) then the best colors to use are dark colors such as dark reds, browns; blues, grays and black.

Locating Bass.

Oxygen is a key factor in locating bass. The cooler the water temperature, the higher the content of oxygen. What this means is if you are fishing in summer, early fall, or spring, large bass are likely to drop down to the lower areas of the lake so as to find cooler , oxygen rich water. They are also more likely to swim to locate areas rich in vegetation so that they can locate better source of oxygen. Wind-blown banks, stumps, Trees, and powerplants are all excellent sources of oxygen that will attract the bass .

The bass depend on cover as a way of protection and a means to ambush their prey. Cover is a very essential part of bass survival. Bass are notoriously known as a lazy fish, this means that they hide and lay and wait for their victim to swim by . Some of the most commonplace areas that bass seek cover include weedbeds, wood structures such as docks, pilings and broken branches and fallen trees.
